We are thrilled to announce that our very own Hoku Sunia has been selected as one of only 10 high school juniors in Hawaiʻi to participate in the Hokkaido Snow Camp (HSC) in January 2025! This unique program offers an amazing opportunity for students to study environmental issues affecting both Hawaiʻi and Japan, while also experiencing a once-in-a-lifetime educational adventure in Hokkaido, Japan.
During this six-day trip, Hoku will explore nature-focused learning experiences and take part in cultural exchanges with high school students from Clark Memorial International High School, who come from various parts of Japan and New Zealand. The program includes exciting activities such as an environmental summit, exploring the vibrant city of Sapporo, and even snowboarding in Hokkaido’s snowy landscape!
In preparation, Hoku and her fellow participants will engage in monthly workshops and orientations to ready themselves for the cultural exchange and environmental summit. Upon returning, they will collaborate on a group report to share the knowledge they gained from their HSC experience. Additionally, students from Oahu will have the responsibility of hosting Clark Memorial students in mid-April, further fostering the bonds of international friendship and exchange.
We are beyond proud of Hoku for representing our school and community in this prestigious program, and we look forward to following her journey as she prepares for this incredible opportunity in Hokkaido!
